Question: What is an academic unit?

Answer: For the purposes of Academic Forum membership qualification, AMIA defines a unit as an informatics program that focuses on teaching, training, and/or research and includes masters, doctoral and/or postdoctoral trainees.

Question: What is a charter a member?

Answer: Charter members are considered founding members and have the opportunity to define the services and benefits that the Academic Forum will provide to the academic biomedical and health informatics community. AMIA expects to identify charter members through the development of a recognition program.

Question: Does participation in any AMIA membership dues category such as individual, institutional, or corporate allow my program in the Academic Forum?

Answer: These are separate membership programs within AMIA. The Academic Forum is designed as a new membership program with a distinct set of member benefits.

Question: What if I'd like to join but am part of an emerging academic unit and don't meet the qualifications stated in the membership criteria?

Answer: The Academic Forum is interested in growing the discipline of biomedical and health informatics and whenever possible will take an inclusive approach to building the membership benefits and services.

Question: What can I do to attend the Inaugural Leadership Summit in June 2007?

Answer: Attendance to the Leadership Summit is included as part of the Academic Forum membership dues and no separate registration fee is required. Travel and hotel are not included.

Question: What if I'm the head of my academic informatics unit and designated representative to the Academic Forum, but can't attend the June 25, 2007 Leadership Summit?

Answer: If the head of academic unit is unable to attend, the unit may designate an alternate to participate.
